Lottie import lets you bring .lottie animations into Rive as a starting point for rebuilding, editing, and optimizing motion.

Lottie files can vary significantly depending on how they were created, exported, and used. Importing them into Rive can introduce risks that vary across customer setups, including performance and reliability considerations. Helping customers assess and mitigate these risks takes significant time and support, which is why this workflow is available on Enterprise.

Importing Lottie Files

Import a .lottie file from the Assets panel or drag it into Rive. After import, Rive converts supported parts of the Lottie file into editable Rive content.

After Importing

Lottie and Rive are different animation formats with different runtimes, features, and optimization models. A Lottie file is not automatically optimized for Rive just because it can be imported. Use Lottie import as a starting point. In many cases, you may need to adjust, simplify, or recreate parts of the animation in Rive to get the best result. You may need to:
  • Rebuild unsupported or partially converted animation features.
  • Simplify complex artwork or timelines.
  • Change unsupported blend modes, such as Plus, Add, or Hard Mix, to blend modes supported by Rive runtimes.
  • Optimize the file for runtime performance.
